COVID-19 ANNOUNCEMENT

Following the UK Government advice given on Monday 16 March regarding COVID-19, it is with great regret that we have made the decision to postpone all retreats planned to take place before July. We hope you will agree that it is the right decision to put the safety of our staff and retreat guests first.

Anyone who has booked a retreat will be contacted personally regarding their booking.

This is a sad and uncertain time for all of us. However we will try to update you when we can, about life on the farm, provide tips to stay sound in body & mind, and of course, let you know about all other future retreats and plans to rearrange those postponed.

Keep safe and well everyone. x

Julie Robinson

I inherited my first camera at eight years old and this is where my love for photography began. I became an avid people-watcher, I loved to take photographs that captured a story, the spirit of a living being, be it a person or an animal and the relationships they had. My friends began to rely on me to capture our moments and indeed my trusty oak bookcase now holds a library of photobooks catapulting us back in time, whenever we call upon a nostalgic chuckle.

An unguided opportunity to capture what inspires you in nature

This retreat day is for the artist who prefers to draw, paint or sketch unguided, surrounded by nature. Having experienced a yoga class with the fells as your backdrop and a meditation with our magnificent gentle giant Clydesdales, both taken by Katherine Beaumont, you will have the opportunity to find your own personal piece of heaven to capture in our meadows or woodland. With the medium of your choice, you will have the perfect atmosphere to allow your creative juices to flow.

Katherine will then take you for a mindful walk around our fields and copses, she says “I have devised the ultimate combination of a soothing meditation practice and the use of nature’s playground to unlock your full potential. Designed to turn up the volume of your soul’s true path, this experience will have your unique expression charging to the surface”.

Once you have found your own personal piece of heaven to capture in our meadows or woodland, we will never be far away keeping you supplied with drinks etc. whilst allowing you the space to work towards a finished drawn memory that captures this very special day of mindful creativity amidst the serenity of the Cumbrian fells. You can work with the changing light and shadows as well as the movement of the horses and if it’s the landscape that captivates you there are stunning views all around.

The climax of the day will be the opportunity regroup at the house and compare everybody’s work, style and composition.

This Painting & Drawing Retreat has been postponed – keep in touch for news when it came be rearranged

What to bring?

We know as artists you have your own preferred materials to compliment your unique skills so we ask you to bring the watercolours, pastels, acrylic paints, drawing pens and pencils you prefer to use. But don’t worry if you arrive empty handed, as we have some drawing boards, paper and charcoal you can use.

Katherine Beaumont

I have spent a lot time training and practising and being absorbed in my own methods in order to heal and flourish. I firmly believe that animals and nature, not only have the power to heal us, but that they are essential in order for us to live a life of self-assured tranquility and peace.

felting retreat  17 May
POSTPONED

This retreat day is the perfect stepping stone for learning the skills of felting in the inspirational Lake District.

Working with wool fibers has a magical quality. The process of wet felting takes dry loose fibers and turns them into a soft but sturdy piece of material which can be as light as a feather, soft as silk or strong and robust as sculptured clay, It can be laid out into pictures to hang on the wall; or 3 dimensional vases; combined with silk to make strong but light fabric for scarves or sculpted into textured forms as tall as the imagination allows.

A morning to clear your mind and give you a blank page

We will centre your mind through creating stillness with yoga, with the fells as your backdrop and a meditation with our magnificent gentle giant Clydesdales. The sounds, smells, and the atmosphere of our Lakeland retreat will give you all the sensory tools you’ll need to create a felt piece.

Getting a feeling for felting

Our felting workshop will be led by Hazel Macfarlane. She will introduction you to the wet felting technique using wool fibres to create a picture inspired by the landscape of the Lake District. We’ll introduce you to the sensation of working with these delicate fibres. Taking them through the physical process of wetting out, massaging, rolling and finally shaping to achieve a lovely tactile memory of your day. No felting knowledge is necessary.

This Felting Retreat has been postponed – keep in touch for news when it came be rearranged

What to bring?

  • If you have felted before, please bring any tools you feel comfortable with.
  • If you haven’t felted before, I will have all essentials available.
  • A pen/pencil and notebook are useful

Hazel Macfarlane

Hazel trained as an architect and life took her from Glasgow to the Lakes via Norway, London and Germany. She discovered felting in Germany in 2002 and was fascinated with this amazing medium and the huge number of possibilities it offers just using wool fibres, soap, water and your hands (oh, and not forgetting a bit of muscle strength!).

What can you expect on a Full Circle Retreat?

Yoga on our retreats

On all our day retreats we start the day by clearing the mind, unwinding and taking time to create peace and space in which to energise ourselves into a state of calmness and bring about flow and connection to our inner creativity. Yoga is well known for being a practice that generates and stores energy in the body with the intention of enhancing the body’s ability to generate and maintain a state of good health and a more open mind.

Yoga is for everyone of all abilities and you do not have to be in regular practice, or able to do all of the Yoga positions to gain the benefit of stillness and quiet that it offers. We encourage a non-competitive, open minded and peaceful style that enables you to take energy from this energy-rich location in the Lake District in which our farm is situated.

We like to hold our yoga class outdoors in the fresh air so that you can take in our wonderful view and feel truly connected to this place of special energy.

Meditation with horses on our retreats

Once we have physically unwound the body, we can bring it into one with the mind and spirit through our meditation session with horses. Debbie and John have been running Hands On Heavy Horses since 2017 and one of our regular activities we like to run alongside our Heavy Horse experiences and in collaboration with our friend Katherine is a meditation experience with horses.

Katherine guides the horse meditation using our 4 beautiful Clydesdale boys; Otto, Paddy, Sam and Ferdy who love to connect and feel your energy passing through in complete silence. This is a unique experience that we believe can’t be experienced anywhere else.

Lunch on our retreats

Our seasonal lunches and healthy coffee-time cakes are supplied by Ashley Holden using local Cumbrian and North West England produce. Ashley produces a glorious, creative and enriching array of fresh and colourful lunches which aim to create a connection to the environment using ingredients that are known for mood boosting and mental happiness.

When the weather allows, we like to have a picnic with a view but on the days when our Lakeland weather has other plans we will have hearty soups and chunky bread with homemade puds. We can cater for vegetarian and vegan options also allergies and gluten free all with prior notice.

What do you need to bring on Your retreats

Apart from requirements, specific to your retreat (see above), you will be doing lots of activities over your retreat and as we often get four seasons in one day in the Lake District, we suggest lots of layers:

  • Something loose or stretchy for Yoga
  • Walking shoes or boots for our sessions with the horses and walks in the fields
  • Fleeces are great for cooler days when meditating outdoors
  • Water proof jackets and even trousers if you have them
  • Spare socks should yours get wet on a walk

If you have any questions before you book, about any of the retreats we offer, just contact us – we’d love to help to make it a day to remember, whether you’re on your own, planning a birthday treat or with a group of friends.

All Full Circle Retreats are non-residential. For some lovely examples of the various guest houses, cottages and hotels that are available in the area please visit our ‘Where to Stay‘ page.
